Windows 2012 DataCenter hanging on resync of software mirrored volume

Reported by: John Dan Owned by:
Component: virtual disk Version: VirtualBox 4.2.8
Keywords: windows 2012, raid, mirror Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

Host OS: Windows 2003 x86 PAE mode, 32Gb Guest OS: Windows 2012 DataCenter x64, 2GB, 1CPU

Virtual HDD at SATA controller (not pre-allocated, real size about 12 Gb):

350 Mb volume (System)

+ 24.66 GB volume (Boot)

When I had added additional disk to SATA controller with the same size (25 GB, not pre-allocated -- this is may be important), and booted Windows, I made a software RAID mirror.

First volume is resynced without any problems. But when second volume resync process is about 54% (probably, it is a range, when it is required to allocate new sectors on host OS for a virtual disk file?) system is... hanging. Totally.

This is a 100% reproducable bug on my system.

All logs attached.

Here is an information about crash from guest system (it is absolutely fresh; no any special/system software, etc) - just to see what is crashed/hanged inside. As we see, storport/RAID failed, so it is really host VirtualBox (emulating disk access) issue. (see guest-bsods-dumps.zip)

Resolution: obsolete
Status: newclosed

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release, there were a lot I/O related bugfixes since.
