Description
Starting yesterday (after the automatic update manager installed new updates), i am now getting "NS_BASE_STREAM_WOULD_BLOCK (0x80470007)" error on startup of virtualbox (4.2.6). I tried booting into earlier kernel versions (and issuing "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" which seemed to successfully complete) but both 3.2.0.35 and 3.2.0.38 fail with the cited message.

I have the same issue. I have purged virtualbox from my machine, ran apt-get update and checked for dependencies, 'printed' out a list of installed apps to make sure I didn't have an old version installed and so on.
If I run apt-get it installs 4.1.12 but I want to install the 4.2.12 which I downloaded directly from virtualbox.org and then used the software centre to install. I am successfully running 4.2.12 on another machine also with Ubuntu 12.04 operating system.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
I think it might be related to permission problems - i "chown"ned several directories to my user and then virtualbox starts up fine. It would be great if there were a more specific error message regarding permission issues. (I don't know how the permission issues came to exist but it might have been my fault)
