#11422 closed defect (obsolete)

menus sometimes cropped

Reported by: Pierre Fortin Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 4.2.6
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

Randomly, VB Menus will display only part of the menu. Easiest way to reproduce is to click on the menu bar and slide the mouse across the menu items.

In the attached screenshots, I managed to capture a rare occurrence -- the View menu displayed two pieces. Have not been able to reproduce this particular oddity.

This started at the beginning of the VB4.2 versions IIRC.

Forgot to add: when the mouse is moved down over the missing menu items, each gets drawn as the mouse reaches it.

Could you please provide us with an exact linux/desktop environment distribution/version name of your host?
And it would be nice to know if at least one of following features is enabled for Virtual Machine: "2D Video Acceleration" and/or "3D Acceleration".
Thx in advance.

Bug still exists in 4.2.16 -- subjectively, it may be a tad less aggravating. Not certain.

Since the release of 4.2.18, haven't been able to install Extensions which always went in like a charm before; so haven't had time to check for this bug.

Any chance to test VBox 4.3 Beta 3?

Where do I find it? Or do I have to build it?

Found VirtualBox-4.3.0_RC1-89687-Linux_amd64.run and it has this same bug. The easiest way to see the bug is to click on one of Machine/View/Devices/Help menus, then slide the mouse back and forth across those menus. The menus will flash as the mouse traverses each one and you should see the partial displays as originally reported. HTH
