Description
Host: Windows 8 x64 RP and duplicated on Windows 8 x64 GA Guest: Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) 3D graphic support for game Battlefield 1942 has stopped working for every version (4.2.4 and 4.2.6) since 4.2.0. Game loads into VGA mode after startup, selecting any game to start will show the loading screen (still 2D) but as soon as game switches to 3D DirectX mode it will force close to desktop (CTD). Problem repeatable by upgrading from 4.2.0 to 4.2.4/4.2.6 and of course installing 3D additions support in Safe mode, reverting back to 4.2.0 (removing old versions first, and after install and start of virtual machine again re-installing 4.2.0 3D additions support game will again work. Last 4.1 version tested ok is 4.1.22.

Fresh install of VB4.2.6 with 3D additions from Safe mode installed, then guest is started and then BF1942 which crashes to desktop after loading level

Then, fresh re-install of VB4.2.0, again 3D additions installed in Safe Mode, guest started and then BF1942 with El Alamein level loading and game starting perfectly fine

Sorry, should have added the logfiles directly. Is there any more detailed logging that can be enabled to further assist tracking down the source of the regression?

We've reproduced and fixed several issues with BF1942.
Please give a try to this test version of VBox Guest Additions, containing the fix and let me know if it solves the issue for you:
http://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/VBoxGuestAdditions_4.2.7-83246.iso
You'll need to use it with VBox 4.2.6 host installation.

Success! Installed 4.2.6, started Safe mode and installed the provided dev build of guest additions, rebooted and then started BF1942 w El Alamein level loading and game starting perfectly fine. Problem appear sorted. Will attach log file from the session above for reference.
