poor 2D-Video-Acceleration performance after update 4.2.4 => 4.2.6

Reported by: bkgmjo Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 4.2.6
Keywords: 2D acceleration performance slow 4.2.6 Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

When using 2D-Video acceleration on machines that used to work fine in scaled mode on VB 4.2.4 minutes ago the contents of the screen are now barely drawn.

The logon screen of Windows for example only shows some pixles of my typing, if any at all. Mouse cursor on integrated mode is barely visible. Going back to unscaled mode displays everything fine.

Also the CPU load even without 2D-Video acceleration on the host system during scaled mode is much higher in this version, maxing out 2 of my CPU cores on smallest screen changes.

I never checked this before on Version 4.2.4 but should 2D-Acceleration not use the hosts graphic hardware? It shows 0% Load on my GPU. Might be the problem here.

Changing the amount of virtual graphic memory does not seem to have any effect, same with the 3D-acceleration option. Also tried reinstalling everything without luck.

This is 100% reproducible with all my machines using as Guest Windows 7 or Windows XP.

System:

Phenom 2 955 x4 (4x 3.2 GHz)

12 GB DDR-3 Ram

Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 (850MHz/1GB GDDR-5)

Windows 7 x64

Have a happy new year!

I don't know about 4.2.4, but I've tried 4.2.6 with a Win7 x86 guest and I can reproduce the issue when 2D video acceleration is enabled, without having Guest Additions installed.

My host is Win7 SP1 x64, Radeon HD 6850, Catalyst 12.10. I haven't seen unusual host CPU/GPU usage levels when I try to do some work with the VM (though you can't do much with it, while the issue is manifesting itself), they remain low/very low.

Oh forgot to mention, it happens with/without Guest Additions and with/without expansions (all newest Version).
