The defect is reproductible when changing the MAC address in guest settings or when cloning with MAC reinitialization.

It is hightly likely that the reason is CentOS and not VirtualBox. The same behavior can be observed with Ubuntu guests. The reason is that the Linux distribution creates a udev rule which contains the current network address. The reason is to remove that static networking udev rule. See for instance the last comment #660 for more explanations.
