Reported by: E1 Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 4.1.6
Keywords: Cc: r74727
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

I have an intermittent fault with an Ubuntu 10.04 host with a windows SRV2003 Guest in terminal services mode. VBox is 4.1.6 r74727 . 16Gb RAM on Host. This Guest is the only one running on this host and the host does nothing else but run this server.

Every now and again I get a halt error and switch to Guru_Meditation, exact fault is:

Guru Meditation -2701 (VERR_VMM_RING0_ASSERTION)

Have tried reducing RAM assigned to guest to 3500 from 3584, and enabling PAE in guest

This morning I found one of three virtual machines in Guru Meditation mode. I am running Virtualbox 4.2.4 on Ubuntu Linux 10.04.4. The affected vm is a Windows 2008 guest running terminal services. The specific error was: Guru Meditation -2701 (VERR_VMM_RING0_ASSERTION).

Rumors (IRC...) have it that this still exists in latest 4.3, and "some" savestate/restore makes it happen after 1-3 days instead of weeks. The later added claim is that automated savestate/restore produces this after 5-8 cycles (revised to be a graphics problem)... very sketchy still.

On the fact side: looks like all VMs are rather big (1st log 3.5GB, swvirt(!), 2nd log 8GB, 64bit).
