Linux host, "Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file" hangs when navigating to an automounted directory.

Description
On a Linux host, in the "Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file" window, virtualbox hangs when trying to navigate to an automounted (NFS+AutoFS) directory. This is in VirtualBox 4.1.14 on a Linux host running the 64-bit Linux kernel version 2.6.38. It happens regardless of whether a virtual machine is running (i.e. it happens even if no virtual machines are running and you use VirtualBox Manager and try to set the virtual CD/DVD disk via "Settings"). The problem is 100% reproducible.
To recover: (1) Kill all PIDs associated with VirtualBox, (2) Unload and re-load VirtualBox kernel drivers.
