Guest Addition wrong mouse position with Multiscreens

Reported by: Samuel75 Owned by:
Component: guest additions Version: VirtualBox 4.1.12
Keywords: Mouse, dual screen, black login screen Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

Host: Debian Squeeze, 2.6.32-5-amd64, Dual Opteron6136, NVIDIA twinview proprietary driver.

Guest: Windows 7 Enterprise X64

After upgrading to version 4.1.12, Lots of problems happening.

  1. After installing Guest addition with Direct3D (WDDM mode) Mouse cursor position goes wrong (looks like scaled in X) when I turned on dual screens. This does not happen without guest addition or in Safemode since it only uses single screen. I repeated clean uninstall and install again. Only when I activated dual screens, the mouse cursor goes wrong place.

I suspect it started from 4.1.11 version. At that time by turning off WDDM mode, I could avoid the problem.

  1. However, with 4.1.12 guest addition, turning off WDDM mode gives me black screen at windows login.

So now, I have to either turn off dual screen with WDDM mode driver, or uninstall guest addition, which gives the same result (using

single screen)

There are multiple issues for multi screen users. The problem scenario is

  1. Leave the multi screen settings (dual screen)
  2. Go to the safe mode
  3. uninstall the old guest addition drivers
  4. reboot to the safe mode again.
  5. install the new guest addition driver
  6. reboot.

=> In this case only WDDM driver can show the screen at the next reboot. All other approaches go to black screen.

However, if I install WDDM driver, the mouse position at horizontal axis goes wrong. If I switch to the single screen. no mouse position problem.

To avoid black screen,

  1. turn off the virtual box
  2. switch the conf for the single screen.
  3. boot to safe mode, uninstall, reboot to safe mode, install guest addition w/o wddm.
  4. reboot to the normal windows
  5. shut down windows.
  6. switch to dual screen configuration
  7. boot the Windows.
