Windows Media Player either hangs or crashes with Windows 8 CP

Host is 32bit Win XP SP3 Guest is a clean install of x64 Windows 8 CP. Winsat and Windows Media player run fine before install Guest Addtions.

After installing Guest Additions, "winsat formal" fails with OpenGL Error: Assertion failed: thread, file D:\tinderbox\add-4.1\src\VBox\Additions\common\crOpenGL\pack\packspu_context.c, line 195

Also Windows Media Player either hangs or errors with a stopped responding error. Windows media center does not play video either.

I managed to play video in the Metro "Video" app, so this seems to be Media Player specific.

I've attached a copy of the winsat output.

winsat crashes are tracked with ticket #9267. Please give a try to the test build of VBox Guest additions posted here https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9267#comment:102 , that should solve the problem you're seeing.
Please give it a try an let me know via ticket #9267 whether it solves winsat problems.
Please submit any further comments on winsat issues to ticket #9267.
I will keep this ticket openned and use it for tracking Windows Media Player issues you report.
Let me know if the test build makes any difference with the Windows Media Player issue well.

ok, I've added the WMP dump from Win7 Embedded.

I applied VirtualBox-4.1.10-76795-Win.exe to a clean install of x64 Windows 8 CP.

WMP still errors with a "Windows Media Player has stopped responding" but now WMP closes without hanging. I do not have to use task manager to close it.

It installs fine on 32bit and 64bit Win 8 CP. Windows Media Player plays wmv and mp4 media files.

Now, WMP plays the files fine when WMP is maximized. When WMP restored/windowed, it not only stutters but it jumps backwards and forwards several frames. Should I open another ticket for this, seeing as WMP is actually playing?

setup works, WMP plays the WMV file correctly and WinSAT also works fine :)

I agree this could be annoying. This warning dialog is added as a temporary measure though, until the WDDM driver becomes ultimately stable and WDDM-based D3D works at least as good as XPDM for all supported D3D apps,
in other words, this warning dialog should be removed finally in a [hopefully] near future.

Is this issue still relevant? Could you please try VBox 4.3 and 4.3 Additions to see if it fixes remaining WMP issues for you?
