Unaligned AIO/DIO with ext4

Description

I find from time to time on different linux host the kernel entry:

Feb 8 12:31:52 userhost kernel: [ 1822.712781] warning: `VirtualBox' uses 32-bit capabilities (legacy support in use) Feb 8 12:32:26 userhost kernel: [ 1856.921623] EXT4-fs (sda1): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 1179650 by VirtualBox; performance will be poor.

Actual it is on Ubuntu11.10 (kernel3.0.17)with VirtualBox4.1.8. I test it there for backporting repositories, so a statement from you would be fine.

Also actual I am using a debian 64bit(sid) guest that has caused this, but it is not limited to debian guests.

I attach the log of the guest.

Have just seen that in this case two messages come together that I have some days ago seen on different places in the kern.log:

Please have also:

in mind.

Summary: virtualbox conflicting with ext4Unaligned AIO/DIO with ext4

This is not a conflict but just a performance warning that certain buffers should have a more suitable alignment.

Nobody cares? I would like to know why VBox uses unaligned buffers and why or just fix it.
