Description
I cannot restore a saved state guest, my specific error (really cryptic!!) is not documented anywhere...
The restore reach 99% and then: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine WKSRE11968XP-Enia. Failed to load unit 'HGCM' (VERR_SSM_UNEXPECTED_DATA). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}
I guess it's related to a change on the clipboard sharing I've done before saving the guest.
I always have troubles with clipboard sharing, I use Terminals (http://terminals.codeplex.com/) as RDP manager and I use it to manage my virtual XP too! I found out that if I keep the clipboard sharing on with "bidirectional" the clipboard stops working after the first "copy" operation. Since RDP protocol has its own clipboard sharing I keep VBox to "disable" and I do not have any problems.
Well, yesterday I had to do changes on my virtual guest without networking so I used it directly via the console, of course clipboard sharing wasn't working because was "disabled"... I re-enabled it but after the final shutdown I have forgot to disable again!
Today I started working to the guest via RDP and when the clipboard stopped working I realized I left it "bidirectional" on the vbox guest! I changed it while the guest was working. I had to reboot my host (Seven 32bit) and to do it quicker I didn't powered off the guest but saved it...
Now I cannot resume it, I didn't try to discard the saved state yet because I want to keep it... But after creating this ticket I will have to discard it otherwise I won't be able to work...

You could try to enable shared clipboard again and then restore the saved state but this requires editing of the VM XML config file. So if there is nothing important in the guest saved state, then the easiest way would be to just discard the saved state and start the guest.

I have actually tried but the trick didn't work...
After having discarded the saved state the guest, obviously, boots... I have saved it again (this time the clipboad sharing was "disabled" since the beginning!) and I was able to resume it...
