VirtualBox occasionally breaks drag and drop on host OS

Occasionally drag and drop functionality on the host OS breaks when using VirtualBox. This happens after I've been working in the VM, then I move the mouse back to the host OS.
Drag and drop stops working until I press the ESC key.
This is apparently a longstanding problem per https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5562&p=214052.

also experienced this issue (thanks for the ESC key hint though!!).
Running Host: Win 7 x64 using VBox ver: 4.2.4r81684

Identical problem with host of Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1, as is the client. VBox version 4.2.4r81684. Many thanks for the <ESC> key work-around!!
