Conflict with iPod and Guest additions

I'm using VirtualBox 4.1.8 r75467 on Ubuntu 11.10 running a Windows XP VM. When I connect my iPod (Nano 6th generation), I can access it normally from iTunes and synchronize.
But, when the Guest additions are installed, iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod as valid anymore and suggest me to reinitialize it. Doing so doesn't fix anything and iTunes keeps on providing me with the same error message. Windows explorer can't see the iPod as a USB mass storage neither.
If I uninstall the Guest additions, everything is fine again. Both Windows explorer and iTunes recognize the iPod and allow me to read and write from it.
