Wondering why this is necessary... we can't change the code of an old 
VirtualBox release (5.1.6 came out almost a year ago, Linux 4.9 about 
half a year later).

VirtualBox 5.1.12 can deal with Linux 4.9, but better use the latest 
release of VirtualBox (currently 5.1.26) to get the latest security and 
other bug fixes.
