looks like your copy of the Makefile has completely garbled DEFS_XPCOM 
settings (it must say which OS you're building on, it's not smart enough 
to autodetect Linux/Solaris/MacOSX), or your make is not compatible with 
the GNU make specific constructs/functions which are used.

The expectations are not very high, but they do exist...
