Which version of VirtualBox are you using and on which host OS?

If you have vboxbow (modinfo | grep vboxbow) loaded then you need not 
manually create VNICs. Simply bridging to a physical link is sufficient 
(the vnic creation, MAC address updates etc. are all done internally).
