[vbox-dev] Why do I get 'Protocol error' when I try to access the shared folder?

Protocol error in this context usually means that the shared folder was
not found. Are you sure that this shared folder was successfully mounted
in the guest? Did you already check the VBox.log file for information
which shared folder was mounted?
