VBox log

Yes, it should be supported. Is VBoxClient --clipboard running on the guest as it should be? Do you have issues with any other guests on that host? Does it ever work?

comment:2 by Technologov, 14 years ago

All other guests work fine.

And yes, I have started the service with "VBoxClient --clipboard" - it does not work.

How to make sure it is actually running?

It should start and stay running without your having to do anything. Does "VBoxClient --clipboard -d" show more information? You can also get a log file with "VBOX_RELEASE_LOG_DEST=file=clipboard.log VBOX_RELEASE_LOG=+all.e.l.l2.l3.f VBoxClient --clipboard [-d]".

Same problem exists in v4.0.4

comment:5 by Michael Thayer, 13 years ago

Sorry, forgot this. The log shows the problem pretty clearly - at some point I switched to using the XFIXES extension for monitoring the clipboard. This was added at the beginning of the X.Org era, and is much cleaner and more efficient than the timed polling of the clipboard I was doing previously. However I also removed the old code, because I decided that supporting XFree86 was not worth the added complexity and the potential bugs that can cause. I should probably mention this in the manual.
