With a linux kernel 2.6.19.2 grsecurity-patched, Virtual Box uncompress correctly the kernel but seems to freeze on booting.

The debian package of the grsec-patched linux kernel is too big for a trac attachment, so you can download it from: http://alca.le.it/uploads/linux-hardened-2.6.19.2_2.6.19.2-3_i386.deb

We have reproduced the problem and are investigating what's going on.

Similar Problems here. Host is Debian etch, Guest ist Debian etch as well. The Guest boots until "init" is called, then the VM consumes 100% CPU and nothing else happens.

Is the source of the grsec patched kernel package available? And does the problem still occur?

Regarding the Debian Etch problem - which kernel are you using in the guest (package name and version and "uname -r" on the command line)?

Devil-Linux 1.2.12 - latest Kernel 2.4.34 has GRSec extensions as well. Crashes during boot.

I've just fixed the Grsec problem with the 2.4.34 kernel. Presumably 2.6 will also work, but I can't check so easily here.

  • status changed from assigned to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.

Checked VBox on 2.6.20+grsec kernel. Works (CONFIG_PAX_MPROTECT must be off for VBox binaries!)

Probably closed too early. I meant a grsec-patched kernel at host. Please reopen if problem still persists.
