I can confirm that I am getting these still with 2.2.2. These crashes seem to happen randomly and without cause or reason.

I posted the logs onto pastebin. They were generated with the same VM and both have 3d acceleration enabled (as indicated by the OGL lines near the beginning). The guest is XP Home. I have had this with XP Pro as well. I don't remember if I had it happen with either of my two linux-based VMs as they both have 3d accel on as well.

Good VM start/shutdown: http://pastebin.com/f401e5d6
Aborted VM shutdown: http://pastebin.com/f7cf8d9da

I actually don't know what is up with the access denied messages in the end. The main difference I see between the two is that the good one has an indicator that shows that the VM state was changed to terminated where the aborted one does not.

I can confirm that issue also with 2.2.2.0. Host and Client are both Vista Business x86 SP1.

shinji, the log for the aborted VM doesn't look like the VM was aborted.

To both of you: Can you provide a minidump?

Does it happens with 3.0 beta?

I have similar crashes. I had them with a Vista host running VBox 3.1.0 when closing (and reverting to snapshot) a XP guest with 3.0.6 additions. I upgraded the Guest Additions to 3.1.0 and I still have the problem. The details reported by Vista are:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: VirtualBox.exe Application Version: 3.1.0.0 Application Timestamp: 4b13ac4f Fault Module Name: VBoxOGLrenderspu.dll_unloaded Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 4b13ac59 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 01cc3495 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.6 Locale ID: 2060 Additional Information 1: 2b5e Additional Information 2: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e Additional Information 3: 5bd4 Additional Information 4: 57d2a4abc2fa2564c3a58a5d05de0315

It is in the same module, but of course, I don't know if it is the same error or something totally different. Feel free to ask me more details if needed. The error is not systematic, but happen quite often. I also don't know if it is better to upgrade to 3.1.2 to test it (altough it doesn't seem this issue has been addressed in the change log) or keep 3.1.0 to be able to track down this problem...

#6443 is a duplicate (or related) of this one, althrough GA are not involved (a guest OS is not even necessary), using a Windows XP SP3 host.
