"A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped. For help, please see the Community section on https://www.virtualbox.org or your support contract. Please provide the contents of the log file VBox.log and the image file VBox.png, which you can find in the /Users/dwhea/VirtualBox VMs/Ubuntu/Logs directory, as well as a description of what you were doing when this error happened. Note that you can also access the above files by selecting Show Log from the Machine menu of the main VirtualBox window. Press OK if you want to power off the machine or press Ignore if you want to leave it as is for debugging. Please note that debugging requires special knowledge and tools, so it is recommended to press OK now."

From your log:

00:00:03.895355 HM: HMR3Init: Falling back to raw-mode: VT-x is not available

Your Pentium P6200 does not support VT-x, and that might be a problem. You'll need to disable VT-x from the VM configuration, from the VM Settings » System » Acceleration. If you can't do it from the Acceleration tab (it's disabled) you'll need to issue the command:

VBoxManage modifyvm "Xubuntu 17.10.1" --hwvirtex off

May I suggest something? It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".

I am having a comparable problem (see https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=87387&sid=b4c17b1f9a92b3743fd03fd73f96fbcc) and I did issue that command, but it did NOT make any difference.

Note that I have been running a WindowsXP VM in VirtualBox for 10+ years.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
