I agree that we should follow this path. Additionaly we are planning to add some logic to guess the guest OS type based on the VM name. So if you entered "Sabayon Linux"  as your VM name, it could automatically choose Gentoo and the help text would refer to Sabayon's relationship with Gentoo.
